OVERVIEW OF GAP ANALYSIS PROCESS

Our gap analysis tool will allow you to compare your current
environmental management practices with ISO's ISO 14001 2004
environmental management standard. This will pinpoint all of the
areas that fall short of the new standard (the gaps). Once you know
where to focus your attention, you can begin to make the changes
that are needed to comply with the new ISO standard.

Our gap analysis process consists of one questionnaire with
351 questions, one for each of the requirements that make up
the ISO 14001 2004 standard. For each question, two answers are
possible: YES or NO. A YES answer means that you’re in compliance
with the standard while a NO answer means you’re not in compliance.

NO
answers reveal gaps that exist between the standard and
your organization’s practices.

Whenever a NO answer reveals a gap, the task of filling the gap
must be assigned to someone. In addition, you need to be able to
keep track of when the work started and when it was finished. The
last three columns on the right side of our questionnaire can be used
to record this information and to control your gap analysis project.
Once all the work has been completed and every gap has been filled,
you can be assured that your environmental management system
complies with the ISO 14001 2004 standard.

The following example will show you what our
Gap Analysis Tool looks like. This example is taken from
4.3 Environmental Planning Gap Analysis Questionnaire.
