Overview of ISO IEC 90003 Software Quality Management Audit Tool (See pdf sample).

WHAT OUR AUDIT TOOL CAN DO FOR YOU

Use our audit tool if your organization needs to be able to demonstrate that
it can meet customer, statutory, and regulatory requirements. Use it if:

  • You need to be able to show that your organization is consistently
capable of providing software products and services that meet
customer expectations and comply with all relevant statutory
    and regulatory requirements.
  • You need to be able to demonstrate that your organization
can enhance customer satisfaction because it is consistently
capable of continually improving both its products and services
    and its practices and processes.

  • You need to be able to assess your organization's ability
to consistently provide software products and services that

meet customer requirements and comply with all relevant
    statutory and regulatory requirements.

Use our audit tool to make sure that you’re ready to be certified and to
improve your organization’s software quality management practices and
processes. All you have to do is answer our audit questions and then take
the appropriate remedial actions. How this is done will be explained below.

OUR INTERNAL AUDITING APPROACH

ISO IEC 90003 2014 section 8.2.2 expects you to “conduct internal audits
at planned intervals to determine whether the quality management system
conforms to requirements of this International Standard”
. Our audit tool will
allow you to meet this requirement. It will show you how to determine whether
or not your software quality management system “conforms to requirements
of this International Standard”

Our audit tool will pinpoint the gaps that exist between ISO's software quality management standard and your organization's software quality management practices and processes. Once you've filled all the gaps, you can be sure that
you conform to ISO IEC 90003 (and ISO 9001) and that you've done everything
you possibly can to enhance the effectiveness of your organization's software quality management practices and processes.

OUR INTERNAL AUDIT QUESTIONS

Since ISO IEC 90003 has five main sections, our audit tool
uses five questionnaires. Use these questionnaires to:

  1. 4. Assess how well you conform to ISO’s
        systemic requirements and guidelines.
  • 5. Assess how well you conform to ISO’s
        management requirements and guidelines.
  • 6. Assess how well you conform to ISO’s
        resource requirements and guidelines.
  • 7. Assess how well you conform to ISO’s
        realization requirements and guidelines.
  • 8. Assess how well you conform to ISO’s
        remedial requirements and guidelines.

Our audit tool starts with section 4 because the ISO IEC 90003 2014
quality management requirements and guidelines start in section 4.
We've preserved this numbering system in order to make it easy to
cross-reference the original standard with our material.

However, at the detailed level we have added a numbering system that
you won’t find in the original standard. We have sequentially numbered
all questions within each of the five sections (4 to 8) that make up the
core of the standard. We have done this in order to make it easier
for you to work with our questionnaires.

In addition, we have used paragraph indents to distinguish between
general questions and specific questions. This approach makes it easy
to see how our questionnaires are structured.

In most cases, a general question is immediately followed by several
specific questions which usually help clarify what the general question
means. If you’re not sure what a general question is asking, just keep
reading. In most cases, the more detailed questions will clarify what
the general questions are trying to ask.

If you’re still not sure about what a question or word means, perhaps
our plain English quality management definitions will help: see http://www.praxiom.com/iso-90003-definitions.htm

To see what our questions look like, see our pdf sample.

OUR INTERNAL AUDIT ANSWERS

Three answers are possible for each audit question: YES, NO, or N/A
(our questionnaires use the following shorthand Y, N, and X). A YES answer
means you’re in compliance with the standard, a NO answer means you’re not
in compliance, while an N/A answer means that a question is not applicable in
your situation. NO answers identify gaps that exist between the standard and
your organization's quality practices and processes while N/A answers
point to items that may be excluded.

Once you’ve completed all five questionnaires, study your NO answers, your
own comments, and our questions and then use this information to formulate
steps that must be taken in order to bring your software quality practices and
processes into compliance with the standard. Use this information to develop
your own ISO IEC 90003 Software Quality Management Conformance Plan.

You can also summarize your audit results quantitatively (see part 3). The
idea here is to measure how compliant your software quality management
practices and processes actually are.

This is how quantitative audit results are calculated: For each section and subsection, count the number of YES answers and record your totals in the
YES column and count the number of NO answers and record your totals in
the NO column. Then add the two numbers together and record the totals in
the YES+NO column.  To calculate the average compliance score for each
section and subsection, divide the total YES answers by the total YES+NO
answers and multiply the result by 100 to get a percentage.

Then use the average compliance scores to rank the sections and subsections
by assigning the number “1” to the highest score, the number “2” to the next
highest score, and so on. The sections and subsections with the highest
average scores are the most compliant and the ones with the lowest
scores are the least compliant and need the most attention.
